TIAX is a technology processingSM company. We transform emerging innovations into robust technology platforms ready for hand-off. Leveraging our technologies, laboratories, and links to external innovation sources, we collaborate with our customers in industry and government to create new business opportunities and achieve mission objectives. TIAX is ISO 9001 certified, with offices in Massachusetts and California.
TIAX was founded by Dr. Kenan E. Sahin in early 2002 as a technology processing(SM) company to bring innovations to market more quickly by processing emerging technologies for hand-off to companies. Later that same year, TIAX purchased the assets of the Technology & Innovation business of the former Arthur D. Little, Inc., which ceased operations, and hired most of the people from that group, many of whom are recognized leaders in their fields. The former Arthur D. Little was founded in 1886 and its Technology & Innovation unit had played a prominent role in bringing technology and science to businesses across the world. TIAX builds on this legacy and continues to enhance its staff with exceptional people. It operates about 50 laboratories and occupies 160,000 square feet of space in its Cambridge, MA headquarters, with strong links to some of the nation's leading universities nearby and across the country.
In the years since its founding, TIAX has achieved extraordinary recognition and technology depth. It was named a Technology Pioneer by the World Economic Forum, and as the CEO of TIAX, Dr. Sahin is a member of the Executive Committee of the Council on Competitiveness, which includes more than 50 university presidents and CEOs. In addition to our existing strong links to universities, TIAX is also pioneering new approaches to collaboration. TIAX is a key commercialization partner in the University of Massachusetts Amherst Center for Hierarchical Nanomanufacturing, established by a National Science Foundation grant. TIAX also owns PlaceLab, a unique facility, which it operates jointly with MIT’s Media Lab.
Dr. Sahin actively drives the company strategy and organizational architecture and is deeply involved in hiring and technology development. His role at TIAX caps an already prolific career as academic, technologist, and entrepreneur. He has served on the faculties of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Harvard, and the University of Massachusetts Amherst. In 1982, he founded Kenan Systems with a $1,000 personal investment and no outside funding. The company grew to become a world leader in telecommunications software employing nearly 1,000 people and was acquired by Lucent Technologies in 1999, where Dr. Sahin subsequently served as a Vice President at Bell Labs and President of Lucent's Software Products Group.
In addition to Dr. Sahin, the TIAX Executive Team includes Dr. Arthur Schwope as Vice President of Operations, and Dr. Brian Barnett as Vice President of Technology. More information on the company’s leadership team is available here.
TIAX laboratories are key to our ability to achieve results for our clients.
