德国CORTEX公司是世界知名的心肺功能仪生产厂家，其产品在运动生理研究、医用诊断与临床研究、康复健身等多个领域有广泛的用途，近千家客户遍布世界各地。目前在中国有近百家用户在使用此测试系统。通过对大量心肺功能疾病患者的呼吸代谢的临床研究，特别是针对梗阻性心肺功能疾病患者死亡病历的研究，目前，CORTEX公司已经应用MPI（风险评估指数）通过对呼吸气体代谢的一些参数（V’E/CO2、V’O2/HR等）定量的进行心肺功能的风险评估，为心血管系统疾病、梗阻性肺部疾病的早期诊断、心肺功能疾病的治疗评估及应激负荷状态下心肺功能风险隐患的早期发现，提供了有利的工具。
在国外，尤其是欧美等国家，以德国为代表，心肺功能测试系统的研究与应用居世界前列。近几年，随着国际技术交流活动的增加，国内心肺功能测试系统的应用与分析技术迅速发展起来，广泛应用于科研机构、医疗机构和综合类院校等。
　　CORTEX公司遥测运动心肺功能测试仪MetaMax 3B参加国际珠峰运动医学研究课题，在极端恶劣的测试环境下，MetaMax 3B作为课题组唯一指定运动心肺功能测试设备，以其卓越的性能圆满完成了不同海拔高度的系列运动生理测试。同时，MetaMax 3B被选为中国航天医学研究中心监测宇航员生理指标的主要仪器。MetaMax 3B是国家计量院唯一计量合格的心肺功能测试系统。
　　CORTEX系列产品之一MetaMax 3B采用每次呼吸测量法，对运动过程中气体的流量、O2浓度、CO2浓度及环境温度、气压等参数实时进行数据采集，通过专业中文软件，采用不同分析方法评价人体的心肺功能状况。MetaMax 3B采用分体设计，符合人体工学要求，外形小巧，配戴舒适，可满足各种实地测试或实验室测试的需要。

1991	CORTEX Biophysik is founded in Leipzig, Germany.
1993	X1 – CORTEX introduces the world’s first portable cardiopulmonary exercise testing system.
1994	CORTEX – for its advanced product concept CORTEX receives the Innovation Award of the Federal State of Saxony.
1995	MetaMax® I – a new portable cardiopulmonary exercise testing system is launched.
1995	MetaMax® I – the German National Cycling Team is preparing for the Olympic Games in Atlanta and for the World Championship in Columbia using MetaMax® I for performance tests at high altitude (2,200m).
1996	MetaMax® I – the world’s first CPX system for swimming applications to test swimmers in their wet element is developed.
1998	MetaMax® II – a new mobile CPX system with a superior operating and carrying comfort replaces the well proven MetaMax® I.
1998	MetaLyzer® – a compact, easy to transport CPX system for the stationary and ambulatory application is launched.
1999	MetaMax® 3B – an advanced development of the successful MetaMax® II is introduced to the market.
2000	MetaVet – the world’s first complete CPX system for horses is introduced.
2001	CardioLyzer 12 – a complete CPX system consisting of a 12 lead stress ECG and cardiopulmonary diagnostic module complements the CORTEX product range.
2001	CORTEX celebrates its 10th anniversary.
2001	MetaMax® 3B – is awarded the desired iF Product Design Award 2001.
2002	Trainings-Assistent – a perfect tool is offered to assess the performance level and to create individualized fitness targets incl. recommended heart rate ranges for optimized exercising.
2003	STATERA – a new expert system to judge the cardiac risk and for therapy control is introduced.
2004	CORTEX – a strategic cooperation with a well-known distributor is agreed on to intensify the penetration on the cardiopulmonary market.
2005	CORTEX – the Innovative Medium-Sized Enterprises 2005 Award is given to CORTEX.
2006	MetaVital – a testing system especially designed for health, fitness & athletic clubs to determine the individuals performance level, optimal fat burning point and basal metabolic rate.
